Fruit cakes: The oldest and easiest to make

Making fruit cakes is not a difficult process since the basic ingredients are baking soda, flour, milk, butter, brown, or white sugar and eggs. Along with these, fruits such as cherries, dried mango, cranberries, currants, and strawberries are often used to give the cake its distinct fruit flavor. A lot of the fruit ingredients depend upon where the cake is being made because depending on the place, lots of local fruits could be added as popular flavors. Since fruit cakes are popular in many countries all over the year, seasonal fruits too could be added as special ingredients.
Fruit cakes are made all over the world with varying recipes because the popularity of fruit cake has spread globally despite no two fruit cakes from different countries tasting the same. The Canadian fruit cake is commonly known as Christmas cake and eaten during the festive occasion of Christmas. It is not seen much during the other times of the year. These cakes are also without any decorations. However in a place like India, fruit cakes are huge attraction all over the year and especially during Christmas. During Christmas, shops have seen huge queues outside for fruit cakes since the universally appealing taste of fruit cakes are loved by everyone and serve as a perfect sweet dish of sorts during the festive occasion.
There is one country though, where fruit cakes are not so welcome. Though United States is well known for fruit cakes which are rich in nuts and fruits, it is often seen as an insult to give a fruit cake to a person. Actually the reason behind this is that the fruit cake has been a source of jokes in various television programs, as a result of which it is often seen as something of ridicule. But there is no doubt about the fact that the American recipe of making a fruit cake with fruits and nuts is one of the most delicious in the world.
Whatever may be its position in different countries of the world, there is no doubt about the fact that fruit cakes are one of the oldest dessert recipes in the world and have enjoyed popularity for more years than any other sweet dish has. This is because the recipe is simple and anything with fruits tastes delicious. No new dessert could dethrone fruit cake from the position of being the simple yet tasty sweet dish.
