The changing culture of happy birthday cakes

The tradition of happy birthday cakes has been around for a long time and is seen as a necessary ingredient for a successful birthday celebration. The cutting of the cake along with the Happy Birthday to you song, the smearing of the cream on invitees, the feeding of the first piece to the loved ones etc all form a part of traditions which have long been associated with birthdays. Birthday cakes ensure that the celebrations get off to a great start and everybody invited feels a part of the celebrations which take place only once a year on the very special day.
There are no definite flavors as far as happy birthday cakes are concerned and whatever is desired by the birthday girl or boy becomes the default flavor because after all it is the day of the concerned person and his or her wishes ought to be respected. Chocolate is a more preferred flavor for kids’ birthdays since a large number of invitees are kids them whereas vanilla is a preferred choice for adults. But nowadays, flavors of cakes have evolved more and other flavors such as butterscotch, pineapple, blueberry, and strawberry are equally popular as cakes for occasions of birthdays.
The size of happy birthday cakes is also an issue because it must be big enough to ensure that every invitee gets at least one slice each. It is better to wait till the final list of invitees is available and then order the cake according to suitable dimensions as that will ensure that the cake is consumed by all and enjoyed by all as well. Too big a cake is not a good idea if the party is a small one. Often the slices of the birthday cake are later available at the dessert section, so that way, it could be ensured that the cake does not go to waste.
Happy Birthday cakes nowadays are available at bakeries and confectionaries and one could easily buy them on the day of the birthday itself. However, if one wishes to have a specially made cake with greetings or some message or a special flavor altogether, the cake ought to be ordered in advance since no parent or family member can simply afford to miss picking up the cake on the day of the birthday. The benefit of pre-ordered cakes is that it could be decorated according to the wishes of the buyer.
Several shops nowadays sell birthday cakes along with gifts and often offer them as combos with discounts or reduced rates. It is also possible to avail such combos and get the cake delivered to one’s house exactly on the day of the birthday. The culture of birthday cakes has evolved a lot from what it used to be but still there are households where birthday cakes are baked by mothers and grandmothers as a tradition of love and blessings on the birthday. The cakes baked are simple in nature without any fancy ingredients but the taste is no less than that of cakes from any fancy bakery.
